Sírkövek a török kori budai zsidónegyedből

Kiállításunk a gyűjteményünkben megőrzött középkori és a török hódoltság korából származó sírköveket mutatja be. A kövek a budai várnegyed 19-20 századi építkezései során kerültek elő. Ekkoriban élénkült meg a zsidóság története iránti érdeklődés, a köveket ezért nem a zsidó temetőkbe szállították át, hanem régészeti leletekként  múzeumok gyűjtötték össze. Ez a gyakorlat a későbbiekben is folytatódott, ennek köszönhetjük a különleges óbudai, vagy a 20. század elején felszámolt régi pesti zsidó temetőből a múzeumba küldött sírkövet. A kövek alá temetettek emlékezetén túl ezért ezek a sírkövek közösségünk történetének, budapesti jelenlétének is emlékkövei.

The exhibition presents tombstones from the Middle Ages and the Turkish period preserved in our collection. The stones were found during the construction works in the Buda Castle district in the 19th and 20th centuries. This was the period when interest in Jewish history was revived, and the stones were not transferred to Jewish cemeteries but collected by museums as archaeological finds. This practice continued later on, leading to the acquisition of the unique tombstones from Óbuda, or the one sent to the museum from the old Jewish cemetery in Pest, which was liquidated at the beginning of the 20th century. In addition to the memory of the people buried under the tombstones, these stones are therefore also a memorial to the history of our community and its presence in Budapest.
