Family funds for a new beginning

Before the war, in early 1939, Miklós Munk and his wife, Hédi Lindenbaum, moved from Budapest to Toronto, Canada, where Nick (as he was now known) started a small factory making machine tools. In late 1944, after his aging father, Gábor Munk, and siblings had escaped to Switzerland, Nick regularly sent money from Canada, providing support that was desperately needed. For his part, Gábor kept precise records in notebooks such as this one, which is titled “Family Fund” and includes the initials of Gábor’s children Nicholas M. Munk, Lajos Munk, and Gizella Kahan.
