– írta a Magyar Zsidó Múzeum Bizottsága 1912 szeptember 20-án kelt gyűjtési felhívásában.
A múzeumi gyűjteményeket kiegészítő fényképes adattárak létrehozása a 19. század végére általános muzeológiai gyakorlattá vált.
A fényképek mára felbecsülhetetlen értékű dokumentációs értéke mellett a korábban csak zsidó szertartási környezetben látható tárgyakat, zsinagógai tereket beemelte a zsidóságról szóló kulturális diskurzus világába. </text>

– írta a Magyar Zsidó Múzeum Bizottsága 1912 szeptember 20-án kelt gyűjtési felhívásában.
A múzeumi gyűjteményeket kiegészítő fényképes adattárak létrehozása a 19. század végére általános muzeológiai gyakorlattá vált.
A fényképek mára felbecsülhetetlen értékű dokumentációs értéke mellett a korábban csak zsidó szertartási környezetben látható tárgyakat, zsinagógai tereket beemelte a zsidóságról szóló kulturális diskurzus világába. </text>

<text>A Pesti Hevra Kadisa a 20. század elejére tekintélyes intézménnyé nőtt. Két temetője volt, ahol a temetések 70 százalékát ingyen végezte. Az 1874-ben a Józsefvárosban megnyílt Salgótarjáni úti temető, ahová a fővárosi zsidóság legelőkelőbb rétege is temetkezett – köztük a Goldberger, a Wodianer, a Weiss és Hatvany-Deutsch dinasztiák –, az 1920-as évekre csaknem megtelt. A temetések ettől kezdve túlnyomórészt a Rákoskeresztúron 1893-ban megnyílt, mintegy százezer sírhellyel rendelkező Kozma utcai temetőben történtek. Ez utóbbi is jelentős volt, hiszen a judaizmus jótékonysággal, közösségi felelősségvállalással kapcsolatos elvárásai nem változtak, ezért a társadalmi érvényesülésnek, a „társasági jelenlétnek” feltétele volt a hevra kadisa tagság és a vagyoni helyzetéhez képest méltó adakozás.<br /><br /><p><em>According to religious law, in every Jewish community of Hungary, there was a chevra kadisha (holy society), which was financially and organically separate entity from the community itself. These societies carried out all activities related to burials and also had other charitable tasks. The Chevra Kadisa of Pest grew to a prestigious institution by the beginning of the 20th century. It had two cemeteries, where 70 percent of the burials were provided for free. Besides the cemeteries, the holy society maintained a hospital, a house for the poor, a shelter, a home for the elderly, and a number of smaller charity institutions. The costs were covered by the rents of its tenement houses, the income from its foundations, as well as from donations. The latter was also significant because the expectations of Judaism regarding charity and social responsibility did not change over the time. Therefore, being a member of the Chevra Kadisha and the donation suitable to one’s financial position was a prerequisite of social success and “social presence”.</em></p></text>
