Ezekbe mindenki betehette a cedaka összegét, és a gyászoló család annyit vehetett ki belőle, amennyire szüksége volt. A gyászidőszakban nem számolták meg, a segítség így valóban az ősi zsidó elveknek megfelelően szinte láthatatlan maradt, nem lehetett tudni sem azt, hogy ki mennyit tett bele, sem pedig azt, hogy mennyit vettek ki belőle. A végén a maradékot betették a zárt hevraperselybe.<br /><br />A zárt perselyek és a nyitott gyűjtőtálak is különféle, a közösség anyagi lehetőségeit is jelző fémekből készültek.
