                <text>Az etrog a négy növényből álló szukkoti csokor része, rituális használata során a speciális tárolóedényből kézbe kell venni. Európa nem mediterrán részein a déli vidékeken termő etrog beszerzése komoly anyagi áldozatot és közösségi összefogást igényelt,  ezért érthető, hogy használaton kívül gondosan őrizték. A koraújkortól ismerünk etrogtartóként használt dobozokat vagy tálakat; ezek gyakran az általánosan használt cukortartó dobozokra és a borkóstoló tálakra emlékeztetnek.  &#13;
Különösen tanulságos a kulcsra zárható, fedelén a nyilát köszörülő Ámor alakjával díszített dobozka. A pogány isten alakjával díszített dobozt felirata szerint a cedaka-gabbajok (azaz a közösség fenntartását szolgáló belső adókat beszedő elöljárók) vásárolták 1835-ben, szukkotkor. A szigorú zsidó értelmezés szerint bizony bálványimádó tárgy eredetileg a közösségi pénzek biztonságos tárolására szolgálhatott. &#13;
Az óbudai közösség tárgyait elsőként leíró Bató Lipót amellett, hogy furcsállja a pogány istenalakkal díszített tárgy megvásárlását, a héber feliratot (mely időmeghatározásként írja, hogy a dobozt szukkotkor vásárolták) picit félreértelmezve úgy véli, hogy a dobozkát szukkot ünnepére vették az előimádkozó használatára.  Az antikizáló profán tárgyat a héber felirat tette judaikává, a katalógus-értelmezése pedig túljudaizálta, azaz rituális, vallási célt szolgáló kellékké tette. Ez jól illik az integrálódó zsidók önképéhez, mely a zsidókat egy csakis vallási praxisában eltérő közösségként értelmezte. Ugyanakkor ez azzal is járt, hogy új tárgyként bevezettek egy olyan szezonális luxustárgyat, amire a vallási gyakorlatban semmi szükség, és feltehetően csak kevesen engedhették meg maguknak, hogy a szukkot nyolc napjára, az etrog használaton kívüli tárolásához egy drága tárgyat vásároljanak. &#13;
