                <text>A kis pergamentekercsen negyvenkilenc ovális, festett virágos keretben látunk szövegeket: ezek az ómer–időszak napjainak és heteinek számát jelzik. A Pészah után hétszer hét, azaz negyvenkilenc napig kell a napokat számolni, mígnem beköszönt a Savuot, a hetek ünnepe. A napok számolásának parancsa bibliai eredetű, s arra utal, hogy a Szentély korszakában pészah második napján kezdődött az árpa aratása, és kévékbe rakása. Amíg állt a Szentély, minden nap felajánlottak ott egy bizonyos mennyiséget az aznapi aratásból. Az ómer napjainak számontartására sokféle tárgyat készítettek. Ismeretesek imakönyv alakú vagy falitáblán elkészített ómerszámlálók is. A római hódítás időszakában ómer idején nagy pestisjárvány pusztított, s rabbi Akiva tanítványai körében is nagy pusztítást végzett. A pusztulás emlékére az ómerszámlálás időszaka gyászidőszak a judaizmusban, amikor tilos a zene és a tánc, nem szokás házasodni, de még hajat vágatni sem. Kivétel ez alól a számlálás 33. napja, „lag baomer” amikor mindez megengedett. Az ősi betakarítási ünnep a bibliai történelem során szakrális kiegészítést nyert: a hagyomány szerint ezen a napon kapta Mózes a Szinájon a Tórát, azaz az írott és a szóbeli tant. Az ómer időszaka így összeköti a fizikai megszabadulás és a szabad néppé válás ünnepét, a pészahot a szakrális közösséggé válással. Bibliai megfogalmazásban: „Azért mondd Izrael fiainak: Én vagyok az Örökkévaló és én kivezetlek benneteket Egyiptomnak rabmunkái alól, megmentelek benneteket szolgálatukból, s megváltalak benneteket kinyújtott karral és nagy büntetésekkel. És veszlek benneteket magamnak népül, és pedig leszek Istenül, és megtudjátok, hogy én vagyok az Örökkévaló a ti istenetek, aki kivezetett benneteket Egyiptomból.” Azaz: kivezetlek Egyiptomból, megváltalak a szolgaságból, megváltalak néppé, és kiválasztalak, szakrális népemmé teszlek. Az ómerszámlálás vége savuot, a Tóraadás ünnepe, amikor a nép törvényeket kapott és kötelessége lett az emlékezés a közös történelmi múltra, az egyiptomi szolgaságra és a kivonulásra. &#13;
