A Kertész Imre műveit gondozó Magvető Kiadó közleményben gratulált ahhoz, hogy a magyar író kapta az irodalmi Nobel-díjat. A kiadó hangsúlyozta, hogy Kertész Imre olyan neveket utasított maga mögé, mint Philip Roth vagy John Updike. A Mazsihisz és a magyarországi zsidóság nevében Tordai Péter elnök gratulált az írónak. Az elsők között gratulált a Párizsban élő 93 éves Fejtő Ferenc, aki Kertész Imrét igazi nagy írónak nevezte, olyan magyar írónak, akit Németországban, az Egyesült Államokban és még Franciaországban is szinte jobban ismernek és értékelnek, mint saját hazájában. Kertészt a hazai hivatalos körök sokáig mellőzték, műve örök szemrehányás a magyarságnak, azért hogy nem nézett mindmáig szembe a múltjával.
