A szovjet típusú rendszer eleve gyanakvással kezelt mindenféle kisebbséget, de Izrael Állam 1948-as megalakulását követően különösen ellenségesen szemlélte a zsidó nemzeti ideológiát, a cionizmust. Ebben a helyzetben érzékeny kérdéssé vált a héber nyelv tanulása, mely a vallásban betöltött hagyományos szerepe mellett Izrael Állam hivatalos nyelve is lett, így felkeltette az államvédelmi hatóságok gyanúját. 1953-ban anticionista koncepciós pert készítettek elő, és letartóztatták a magyar zsidó ifjúsági mozgalmak vezetőit. Vizsgálati fogságba helyezték Fischer Piroska óvónőt is, akinek az volt a bűne, hogy a zsidó gyerekeknek héber írás-olvasást, valamint bibliai történeteket tanított. Az 1980-as évekre e téren is puhult a rendszer, a magyar holokauszt negyvenedik évfordulójára rendezett megemlékezés-sorozat részeként már propaganda célú fényképalbumot készítettek a magyar zsidók életéről. Az egyik képen az ortodox zsidó óvodában Piroska néni tanítja a gyerekeknek a héber betűket. Előttük az asztalon a Tel Aviv-ban, a Sinai kiadónál megjelent Kol Jehuda héber abc és olvasókönyv fekszik. A képen: Piri néni, Kerekes Judit, Weinberger Tamás, Weinberger Eszter és Silber Eszter.
