<text>Film narráció
„Története különben csak a férfinak van. A híres asszony olyan ritka, mint a kopasz asszony. (…) Voltaképpen a tisztes asszonynak nincs is története. Születik, férjhez megy, urát segíti, gyermeket nevel és meghal.” – írta a korszak zsidó világának hű ábrázolója, a lapszerkesztő Ágai Adolf. A lányokkal szemben mások voltak a társadalmi elvárások. Idősebbik lánya, a csodaszép Lili a jónevű Virány családba házasodott.

A Teréz körúti Misner házban eközben próbálták fenntartani a normális életkereteket – egyre kevesebb sikerrel. Októberben a nyilasok átvették a hatalmat, ami megpecsételte a budapesti zsidók sorsát is. Misner Ignác éhen halt a pesti gettóban. A Politzer ágon tizennyolc hozzátartozója lett a holokauszt áldozata.

„My name is Linda Clara Margaret Livia Ambrus Broenniman. At birth, I was given the name Linda Clara Margaret Livia Ambrus. I don’t know why I was given three middle names. My three older siblings were given just one. My parents changed course with me. The siblings who followed also received three middle names. Clara, of course, was after my mother. I recall when, at age 4 or 5, Grandmother Bözsi proudly told me that Livia was for her sister, Lili. Margaret was for her mother, Margit. I had never given those names much thought. But now, I think of them as a mysterious gift. Like a fairy tale spell that would take hold in some distant, unforeseeable future. That future arrived with a jolt when I was possessed by the need to know those whose names I had inherited. And understand the truth of where I came from. Over thirty-five years ago, I discovered that I am not who I thought I was. It took this long to muster the courage and determination to embark on a journey of discovery. This story has unfolded over many years. Often in fits and starts. Sometimes opening up, sometimes slowing to what seemed a dead end. It changed as new information was discovered or as different people entered the story. There are the gaps when I cannot find witnesses. I tried to reinforce the story with research. It was Zsigmond’s legacy to finish our family history that he started. And so, it is our duty to pick up a quill and continue with the utmost respect where he left off. Perhaps it is his quill I inherited. I respectfully pick it up and search for the truth of my ancestors by bringing their stories back into the light. I hope to learn of their lives. To honor their memory.”
Sosem kaptak útlevelet, a rendszer foglyaiként éltek.
„I sat next to my father’s bed and asked my questions, knowing that silence would be my reply. Why had he kept our ancestors a secret? They were remarkable people who aspired to create a better world. Even with lesser accomplishments or aspirations, they deserved to be remembered. To be known and respected and admired by us -- their family. Why would he deny himself the pleasure of bragging about Rachel and her reputation for being an expert in Latin? He loved languages and was especially proud of his Latin. His passion was medicine and the pursuit of medical research. Why not boast about Moritz, Illés, Adam, and Alfred, all eminent doctors in their day? With his love of Hungarian history, why not talk about Henrik Marczali, author of Hungary in the Eighteenth Century, broadly recognized for his achievement in Hungarian scholarship? And with his passion for poetry, why not tell us about Elvira Mihelfy, and Bella Rosenfeld and Sándor Bródy? Those stories would require no fabrication or exaggeration. My father embodied many of his family’s ideals. I feel blessed to have this extraordinary Jewish history and legacy. It gave me a sense of belonging. Like the seeds that my great great grandfather Ignácz Misner planted for his beloved trees, I was meant to be. I had roots. I belonged on this earth.”</text>
