                <text>A zsidók viselete a lakóhelyükön szokásos, a helyi lakosság által hordott ruházatot követte, jellegzetes, csak a zsidók által hordott kiegészítésekkel. A 19. századra a kelet-európai közösségek a hagyományhű viseletet zsidóságuk szerves részének tekintették, és minden eltérést a hagyományok megszegésének, az asszimiláció felé való elmozdulásnak, gyakorlatilag szentségtörésnek tekintettek. Ezzel együtt különösen a nők viselete követte a divat változásait, de viseletük néhány eleme jellemzően megmaradt: a mellkendő, a kötény és a jellegzetes fejfedő, a „csillagkendő”. A csillagkendő (jiddisül: „Sterntichel”) csipkével és gyöngyökkel díszített, koronaszerű fejdísz, melyet kis szaténsapkára illesztve viseltek a férjezett nők. Ez a pompás fejdísz ünnepi viseletnek számított, és értéke miatt öröklődött – de természetesen nem mindenki engedhette meg magának. Készültek olcsóbb, egyszerűbb változatai is, és vannak források arra is, hogy gazdagabb nők hozzájárultak a szegényebbek Sternticheljének kialakításához.  &#13;
Ilyen, gazdagon gyöngyözött csillagkendőt visel a róla készült portrén Strelisky Dávid felesége, Fanny is. A reformkorban készült kettősportrén hordott, nyilván ünnepi viseletük hűen tükrözi előző lakóhelyük, a galíciai Brody szokásait, ahonnan 1830-ban érkeztek Pestre. Strelisky Dávid ekkor, negyvenhét évesen lett az Orczy házban berendezett konzervatívabb zsinagóga kántora. A másik, reformokra nyitottabb zsinagóga kántorával, Denhof Károllyal ellentétben neki semmilyen zenei iskolázottsága nem volt, így a Brodyban megszokott dallamokkal imádkozott. Lengyeles stílusa nagy hatással volt a magyarországi ortodoxia liturgiájára. &#13;
A házaspár ünnepi viselete még a szigorúan ortodox hagyományt követi ugyan, de a tény, hogy olajportrét készíttettek magukról, már a nagyvárosban őket ért hatásokat tükrözi. Hat gyermekük közül Lipót az első fényképeszek egyike lett Pesten, műtermét utódai vitték tovább.  &#13;
