A pesti Zsidó Múzeum alapítása után, 1912-ben Fürst Aladár a Múlt és Jövő hasábjain hívta fel a fényképek gyűjtésének fontosságára a figyelmet, cikkében a „zsidó kultúrtörténeti értékkel bíró tárgyaknak fényképét és leírását”, valamint „régi zsinagógák, templomi szerek, okmányok, zsidó iparművészeti munkák, illusztrációk” fényképeit kérte. A kezdeményezés eredményességét jelzi, hogy a Magyar Zsidó Múzeum 1915-ben megjelent első katalógusában az első tételek között szerepel több mint negyven zsinagóga fényképe, valamint híres zsidók portéi. A Múzeum alapításától alakuló fényképtárunk számára sok vidéki zsinagóga belső teréről ekkor készült először és utoljára fényképfelvétel, nem egy közülük kiemelkedő fotográfiai minőségben. A fényképek mára felbecsülhetetlen értékű dokumentációs értéke mellett a korábban csak zsidó szertartási környezetben látható tárgyakat, zsinagógai tereket beemelte a zsidóságról szóló kulturális diskurzus világába. Identifier An unambiguous reference to the resource within a given context 2017.9 Description An account of the resource Fürst Aladár, a budapesti zsidó fiúgimnázium tanára és a Zsidó Múzeum munkatársa 1924 májusában a Szentföldre látogatott, majd úti élményeit még abban az évben publikálta. A rövid beszámolóban leírja a hajóutat és a megérkezést, amelynek során kelet-európai kivándorlókkal is találkozott. Írásában bemutatja az évszázadok óta a négy szent városban: Jeruzsálemben, Tiberiáson, Cfáton és Hebronban élő zsidók mindennapjait, és részletesen ír az új jisuvok (közösségek), a Rothschild báró támogatásával létrejött kolóniák és a zsidó iskolák életéről is. „Minden zsidó, aki csak teheti, iparkodjék életében legalább egyszer ellátogatni arra a földre, »melyet az Örökkévaló, a te Istened neked ígért« szent emlékeket idézni a szép múltból, munkát kérni a küzdelmes jelenből …” – írja Fürst. Ő maga az élményeken kívül emlékként egy maroknyi földet hozott a Kidron-völgy sivatagjának homokjából, amelyet később a múzeumnak ajándékozott, 1940-ben pedig végleg Tel-Avivba költözött. Aladár Fürst, teacher of the Jewish Boys’ Grammar School of Budapest and co-worker of the Jewish Museum, visited the Holy Land in May 1924 and published his experiences the very same year. In his short report he describes the voyageand the arrival, during which he met East-European immigrants too. In his writings he depicts the everyday life of the Jews in the four holy cities: Jerusalem, Tiberias, Safed and Hebron and writes in detail about the new yishuvim (communities) and the life of the Jewish colonies and schools sponsored by Baron Rothschild. ‘Every Jew, whoever can, shall at least once in his life visit the land “which the LORD, your God, promised to you” in order to evoke holy memories of the beautiful past and seek a role of the present struggles...’ writes Fürst. He himself, apart from his experiences, brought a handful of earth as a souvenir from the sand of the Kidron valley desert, which he later gave to the museum.
