                <text>A magyarországi templomépítészetnek kétségtelenül legkiemelkedőbb egyénisége Baumhorn Lipót volt, életművével mégis mostohán bánt a történelem és úgy tűnik az utókor is. Épületei – elsősorban zsinagógái – különleges értéket képviselnek mind a templom-funkció fejlődésének, mind a századforduló magyar nemzeti összművészeti kísérletének szemszögéből. Baumhorn azon kevés építész közé tartozik, aki a háború utáni trianoni időkben is – a speciális egyházi autonómia helyzetének megfelelően – sok feladathoz jut az utódállamokban. Mind ott, mind itthon: a megváltozott építődivatok között is sikerrel meg tudja őrizni ifjúkorának nemes eszményeit. Építészeti stílusára jellemző maradt a lechneri nemzeti formanyelv, amelyhez keleties, illetve reneszánsz, barokk, nem ritkán szecessziós ornamentikát alkalmazott. Baumhorn és általánosságban a századforduló egész magyar zsinagógaépítészete sok más forrásnál jobban képes számunkra megőrizni a kor szellemtudományos ihletettségének, feltörekvő liberalizmusának és ugyanakkor magyar nemzeti szellemű magatartásának közös ikonográfiáját, mára elfeledett lehetséges egységét. Baumhorn zsinagógái túlélték a háborút, ma mégis kevesen ismerik nevét. A kiállítás e rendkívül gazdag (több mint negyven zsinagógát magába foglaló) életművet maga után hagyott, mégis méltatlanul felesésbe merült nagyszerű építésznek állít emléket, bemutatva legszebb alkotásait többek között a szegedi, szolnoki, brassói, ceglédi, egri, újvidéki, makói és még számos – az építész kreativitását és nagyszerűségét dicsérő – zsidó templomot. Az építész 1932-ben hunyt el, sírja ma a Kozma utcai temetőben található, vörös márvány emlékművét Somogyi György tervezte.&#13;
