A zsinagógai ünnepi liturgia legkiemelkedőbb pillanata a sófárfúvás. Ez a hangszer kosszarvból készül, s arra az eseményre emlékeztet, hogy az első sófár annak a kosnak a szarvából készült, melyet Ábrahám végül Izsák helyett áldozott fel, miután Isten meggyőződött hűségéről. A Zsidó múzeum gyűjteményében számos régi sófár található. A teljesen egyszerű, naturális darabok mellett léteznek feliratos és megfaragott darabok is annak emlékeként, hogy az Isten dicsőítésére használt tárgyakat a lehető legelmélyültebb, vallásos tisztelettel övezett munkavégzés során alakították ki.
